Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi glorifies Prostitution?
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s recent release has found itself in controversy, immediately after its release Heeramandi became the talk of the town.
Although people seem to be amazed by its grand set beautiful jewelry design, and amazing women all around.
What one can’t get over is the fact that every SLB show recently glorifies prostitution.
If you see Heeramandi you will start noticing those little hints that the series throughout gives. How the women were forced to let go of their children, how the nawabs were not accepting them, how they were disrespected time and again.
SLB in his series has shown that those are the women who enjoy power. In the midst of all where there is a war to get freedom, the women of Heeramadni enjoy being in a position of power.
It cannot go unnoticed that the women came in that position not because they wanted to,but because that was something they were destined to do.
All of them had a sadness that they were trying to recover from
here I am not talking about the actresses but the characters they played.
Although it seemed that they were enjoying their power, their aura in the society.
What cannot go unnoticed is the fact that they had to enjoy it all because they did not have much choice.
“they felt so weak at times now that they had the power they could not let it go”.
All of them had their own story some of them were sold by their family members, some of them were forced to serve the Nawabs.
In the end, it almost felt like they wanted money, which is not completely wrong.
When looking through the human lens, in a way you realize that they don’t have much choice, they were not the ones to serve the nation but when the need came they did do it.
No, they didn't do any favour to the nation but they did play some part of being an Indian like every one else.
Bibbojaan was the one who constantly fought alongside countrymen who died for the country and understood the importance of freedom.
It would be unfair to say that the series glorified prostitution one has to understand the place where the series is coming from.
It is from the period when the courtesans were having immense respect in the society, they had the aura which no common man could touch.
Despite the controversy surrounding their treatment, they were the ones who emerged from the dreadful situation life presented them with.
